After the First World War, Iraq found itself in need of a monarch, and Sheikh Khaz’al emerged as a strong and promising candidate. He had the support and loyalty of the people in southern Iraq, where his influence was considerable, and his leadership was highly respected. He had employeed several individuals to push for his candidacy across Iraq. Among these individuals were Nuri Al Saeed, Muzahim Al Pachachi and Jaffar Al Askari.

A letter from Muzzahim Al Pachachi to Sheikh Khaz'al concerning the political landscape of Iraq under King Faisal

Translation:

Basra, 18 August 1941

"To His Royal Highness, my Lord, the Sardar Aqdas, may God protect him,

After kissing your generous hands I present the upmost required respect, I arrived in Basrah two days ago and it is my deepest desire to be honoured by your presence but I heard that you were in Nasiriyah so I began to observe your arrival to Al Feiliyah.
